Morning Phone Use Experiment

How did you wake up this morning? If you are like the majority of people (myself included at times *cough cough*) you reached for your phone first thing after waking up.
When we reach for our phone first thing, and go straight into social media or news, this can prime our nervous system into an overly activated state for the rest of the day.
We may feel:
Rushed (into our work day or next tasks)
Tired or burnt out (from the information we took in)
Unmet needs (ignoring crucial signs of nurturing that our bodies and minds truly wanted)
I’d like to suggest an experiment to run this week.
We can each be detectives of our own states while trying the following:
Take some time after your morning phone routine to jot down how you are feeling before and afterwards.
Next time, try naming what you will limit your phone usage to in the morning. (i.e. looking at the time, weather, and any other non-activating app - making sure to save social media and news for later)
Choose 1-3 things that you want to do before going to your phone. (i.e. make bed, morning hygiene routine, breakfast/coffee/tea, meditation/journaling/gratitude)
Don’t feel like you have to force a full morning routine right off the bat. Start small and build up. The more important thing with this experiment is to notice the difference between how it feels for you mentally, physically, emotionally between going straight to your phone to introducing time for yourself to care for your own personal needs before. I’d love to hear about what your expert detective skills have uncovered! Let me know by leaving a comment whenever you’ve tried it out.
Yours in wellness & healing,
Angela
