Bare Minimum Days

How many times have you felt like you have gotten off-track with your routine and all of the things you had set out to accomplish? When we strive for perfection and don't give ourselves any leniency towards how our lives may ebb and flow, we can end up feeling like a failure for not crossing everything off of our list the same way every single day. The fact of the matter is giving something our “all” may fluctuate from day to day, and that is okay. Today our “all” may look like a full-blown routine of self-care, chores, work, and exercise. Tomorrow our “all” may look like just the bare minimum of making it from one thing to the next.

It can be important on our bare minimum days to know what parts of our usual routines best serve us, and then choose mini-versions of them. If we know that a beautifully made bed helps our peace of mind - maybe we have it most of the way there but not decked out with all the bells and whistles (if you are a decorative pillow and blanket person like me ;)). If we know that movement helps our well-being, maybe we have a quick 5-minute stretch routine to help our circulation and to get things flowing, instead of our usual full-blown exercise circuit. If we know that connecting with ourselves and providing self-care goes a long way for us, maybe we consider a quick go-to breathing exercise of diaphragmatic breath. When life speeds up and gets too fast, it's okay if we are finding our footing and just making it. By having our bare minimum days thought out, we can hold support, grace, and compassion for ourselves along the process - knowing that we don’t always have to hold ourselves to perfection.

Angela
